TURN CRAFT is a reinterpretation of Nao Tamura's TURN project, launched in 2019, that reveals original material and color effects. The glossy black version, TURN CRAFT Stainless Black / Nero, is obtained through a steel dyeing process that Ambientec uses for the first time, giving the color fullness. A portion of the stem is wrapped in hand-stitched, fine black Tuscan Liscio leather, adding a touch of character. The brass version, TURN CRAFT Brass / Cotto, has a nostalgic allure that reinterprets the lamp's contemporary lines. The special process treated with very gentle oil finishing, gives the finish varying shades over time, making the lamp a distinctive object with exquisite and unsual aesthetics. The Tuscan Liscio leather coating on a portion of the stem is hand-sewed and complements the natural tones of the lamp perfectly.
As the name suggests, TURN CRAFT is made by craftsmanship, combining metal parts and natural materials precisely, and finishing brass and stainless steel to make the best use of their characteristics. and finishing to make the best use of the characteristics of brass and stainless steel.
Oil-finished brass
Ordinary TURN Brass is coated with a clear coating to prevent oxidation and corrosion of brass. However, at TURN CRAFT, in order to enjoy the aging process and to finish the product as close to solid material as possible, the parts are stored in a vacuum after processing until assembly and then finished with oil. The brass is not only transformed, but also polished to restore its original brilliance over and over again, thus respecting the original properties of the brass and making it even more lovable.
TURN CRAFT offers a special "maintenance polish" for TURN CRAFT.
Leather Grip
”TOSCANO LISCIO" is a leather made by the vaqueta method. ”LISCIO" means "smooth" in Italian. The leather is tanned with vegetable tannin, which is a traditional method in Tuscany, Italy, and then animal fat is applied to the inside of the leather to produce high quality leather. This leather is hand-stitched all the way around the handle of the TURN pillar by craftsmen in a workshop in Japan.
TURN CRAFT Stainless Black is made of Nero (black) leather and TURN CRAFT Brass is made of Cotto (dark brown) leather.
Blackened stainless steel
Stainless steel is the strongest of all TURN materials and is extremely resistant to corrosion. The silver color of the exterior, which sometimes seems too strong in a space, has been dyed black to create a more relaxed and dignified finish. The desire to have more people use the excellent stainless steel material "TURN" was realized through an encounter with a young company in Tsubame-Sanjo that has a special technology for dyeing stainless steel black, and is a craftsman at heart.
